Quantum Information tries to store, process and communicate information in quantum states, and explores the tasks which can be achieved efficiently using quantum mechanical rather than classical systems. For its implementation any physical platform has to fulfill complementary aspects of near perfect isolation along with a high degree of controllability.
Rydberg physics deals with atoms with one or more electrons excited to very high lying quantum states. As a result of this excitation Rydberg atoms can interact with each other very strongly, even over macroscopic distances. This gives rise to a rich spectrum of new many-body physics in a strongly correlated regime. These unique properties of Rydberg atoms allow to simultaneously satisfy the conditions required for implementations of quantum information protocols.
Goal
The aim of this winter school is to give young researchers the opportunity to learn about the two prospering fields of Rydberg Physics and Quantum Information and their interconnections. Our goal is to bring together high-profile researchers from both of these fields to give introductory lectures on basic concepts as well as cutting edge research talks. Participants will be given the opportunity to present their results in poster sessions.
