We have gone through each of the canonical approximations, with concrete and accessible examples, as well as with research-relevant instances, to help the reader appreciate when quantum dissipation can be modeled through a Lindbladian, and when not.
We tried to write this pedagogical article in layers: 60-70% of it is accessible with advanced quantum mechanics and basics of open quantum systems; however, we tried in some cases to deepen the reasoning and offer also to seasoned researchers some food for thought.
