Chair in Experimental Quantum Communications

Job type:

Application deadline:

Sunday, January 19, 2020

The York Centre for Quantum Technologies (YCQT) is an interdisciplinary centre that includes activities in the departments of Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Mathematics and Physics. YCQT also hosts the leadership of the UK Quantum Communications Hub, with Professor Tim Spiller as the Director of both the Centre and the national Hub. The Quantum Communications Hub has been awarded further EPSRC funding for a five-year Phase 2 through to 2024. This new Hub collaboration will again be led by York. This new Chair in Experimental Quantum Communications is a key appointment for the YCQT. Dependent upon your preferences and research portfolio, the potential for collaborations (experimental and theoretical) with current York staff, and laboratory requirements, the Chair could be based in one of the departments associated to the YCQT, or be a joint appointment.
The Chair will also be supported by a Lectureship appointment along with major start-up investment.

Your role will be to establish experimental activity in quantum communications at York. You will be supported with suitable laboratory facilities and significant start-up funding. You will also be expected to take on teaching and administrative responsibilities commensurate with the position, carrying out these activities to a high standard. Given the evolving landscape of academic research in this sector, applications in growth areas are particularly encouraged. Examples include, but are not restricted to:

 Quantum key distribution (QKD) with novel or entangled states of light
 Advanced quantum networking
 Device-independent and measurement-device-independent QKD
 Communication technologies and applications beyond QKD
 Quantum communications in space

We welcome applications from candidates with research interests in any areas of experimental quantum communications.
