ICFO - The Institute of Photonic Sciences, a centre based in Castelldefels (Barcelona), devoted to the research and education of the optical and photonic sciences, at the highest international level, is currently offering a post-doctoral position to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic young scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in the field of Experimental Quantum Optics with Cold Atoms. The successful candidate will be part of the research group led by Dr. Morgan Mitchell.
The candidate is expected to participate in and eventually lead research projects using the ICFO rubidium trap, a double-MOT plus optical dipole trap for preparing and studying cold rubidium atomic ensembles. Current work includes spin squeezing and studies of light-matter interactions with cold ensembles and near-resonant light. See http://www.icfo.es for details on the group.
The successful applicant will have demonstrated research ability in at least one of the following experimental areas: atom trapping and cooling, quantum optics, laser physics, low-noise techniques, continuous-variable quantum information. He/ She have to be able to lead a small, international team of graduate students in day-to-day experimental work. Strong communication skills in the common language (English) are required, too.
Eligibility and Conditions
Candidates must hold an internationally-recognized PhD-equivalent degree (or evidence of its completion in the near future) in a field of science related to quantum optics and atomic physics.
No restrictions of citizenship apply to the ICFO post-doctoral contracts.
The fellowship is available for 1 year, in the first instance, but can be extended following the successful outcome of the initial phase.
Application procedure
Suitable candidates are requested to submit:
· A presentation letter with a declaration of interest,
· A Curriculum Vitae, including full address, a contact phone number and e-mail address,
· The contact e-mail of three potential referees.
Applications should be submitted by e-mail to: icfojobs@icfo.es.
E-mail submissions must include the mailing label “EQO” and your last name printed before the label.
Applications can also be submitted by post to the Post-Doc Screening Committee.
Candidates should be willing to be contacted by phone during the selection process.
