General Scope: This project aims to develop a microwave-to-optical quantum interface for the transfer of quantum information between microwave and optical domains. Such an interface could enable long-distance transfer of quantum information and optically mediated entanglement between distant microwave qubits, such as superconducting or spin qubits. It is a promising route to bridge microwave quantum technologies and silicon photonics.
Research topic and facilities available: In this topic, the key challenge is to pump an optical non-linearity strongly enough to achieve efficient frequency conversion while avoiding excessive heat dissipation at millikelvin temperatures. The device we are developing consists of a release-free optomechanical crystal (co-localized photonic and phononic crystal modes) and a release-free electromechanical crystal (a microwave superconducting circuit piezo-electrically coupled to a phononic crystal mode).
The postdoc will lead the development and optimization of the optomechanical component, while working closely with other members of the team towards the integration and optimization of the complete device. The fabrication will be carried out in the cleanroom facilities of the Néel Institute using state-of-the-art nanofabrication techniques. Cryogenic microwave and optical measurements will be performed in a dedicated dilution refrigerator.
Research environment and collaborations: The postdoc will join the superconducting quantum circuit group (https://www.sqc.cnrs.fr/) at the Néel Institute, benefiting from an interdisciplinary environment.
The project is carried out within the framework of the French Quantum Plan, in close collaboration with MPQ in Paris, with expertise in quantum optomechanics, and CEA-Leti, providing advanced nanofabrication and photonic integration capabilities. The postdoc will interact with our partners on the present project and on other architectures developed within the consortium.
Required skills: Experience in optical measurements, preferably in nanophotonics or optomechanics, is required. Experience with nanofabrication, cryogenic measurements and finite-element simulations is an asset.
