We are seeking Senior Researchers in Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing to contribute to the development of key components of the fault-tolerant stack. These roles focus on decoders and quantum algorithms at the logical level, addressing how quantum information can be processed reliably in large-scale, error-corrected systems.

Toshiba Europe Ltd has been at the forefront of quantum technology research, particularly quantum communications and quantum key distribution (QKD), for over two decades. Our research underpins deployed Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) systems and continues to drive innovation in next‑generation quantum‑secure networking. An established leader in photonic integrated circuit (PIC) research for QKD, Toshiba is accelerating the transition of PIC-based QKD devices from lab to market.

With over two decades of research, innovation and development, Toshiba is at the forefront of quantum science and technology. In quantum communications, Toshiba commercial quantum key distribution systems offer the highest key rates on the market and play a major role in the worldwide deployment of secure quantum networks. Photonic integrated circuits are set to revolutionize the architecture and capabilities of such systems and enable large-scale networks by integrating the quantum optical hardware onto miniature photonic chips.

At neQxt, our theory team explores the principles that make scalable quantum computing possible. We study how fault tolerance can be realized under realistic conditions, designing circuits, developing simulation methods, and analyzing noise at the circuit level. A key part of our work is to understand trade-offs between different approaches and how they can be embedded into modular architectures. We aim to connect theoretical insights with practical feasibility, developing techniques that move fault tolerance closer to realization. By building tools, models, and architectures, we provide a bridge between abstract principles and the requirements of physical quantum processors.

At neQxt, our theory team explores the principles that make scalable quantum computing possible. We focus on logical-qubit systems: developing quantum error correcting codes, decoding methods, and logical gate constructions, and studying the mathematical structures that underlie them. Our work aims to deepen the understanding of how fragile quantum information can be preserved over long timescales and across large systems. By advancing the theoretical foundations of quantum fault tolerance, we contribute to both the science of quantum information and the long-term vision of reliable quantum computing.

This PhD Scholarship offers a generous stipend of A$41,753 per year (2025 rate) for up to 4 years. Open to domestic and international students.
