IEEE Spectrum reports that researchers at the University of New South Wales in Australia, led by Professor Michelle Simmons, have created a transistor using quantum dots that is 10 times smaller than those commonly in use today as they work towards their ultimate goal of building a quantum computer. Professor Michelle Simmons said: ''We're basically controlling nature at the atomic scale. This is one of the key milestones in building a [[quantum computer]].'' This research was publish in [http://dx.doi.org/10.1038/nnano.2010.95 Nature Nanotechnology].
