The Advanced Technology Institute (ATI) at the University of Surrey is looking to employ a full time Post Doctoral Researcher for a fixed term position to participate in the EPSRC-funded HyLight project. This project aims to develop hyperuniform disordered nanophotonic structures in which geometrical and topological correlations are accurately controlled for the next-generation of photonic devices, including low-threshold micro-lasers and novel flexible optical micro-circuit architectures.
This post will focus on theoretical and computational aspects of hyperuniform disordered photonic materials including derivation of theoretical/analytical models and computational frameworks to describe photon transport and light-matter interaction in disordered photonic-band gap structures; characterisation of various lasing regimes in hyperuniform disordered structures, including band-edge, defect-mode and random-like lasing; and design and optimisation of hyperuniform disordered structures.
The post is available for one year in the first instance, with a possibility of extension for a further two years. The post holder will conduct theoretical and computational research in the area of nanophotonics, condensed matter and/or quantum optics and will be expected to collaborate closely with the academic and industrial partners and take part in the programme activities.
The successful candidate should hold a PhD in physics or a related field and have a strong research track record in photonics. Background in photonic band gap materials and disordered photonics and past experience in collaborating with experimental groups and industrial partners is an advantage.
Application:
Informal enquires can be made to Dr Marian Florescu (m.florescu@surrey.ac.uk).
The position is available immediately and the expected start date is 25 November 2015.
