The Scuola Normale Superiore (SNS) in Pisa (Italy) is a public institute for higher education with unique features: the selection of students – through specific public competitions – is based on merit only, classes are organized like seminars, teaching and research are closely linked, college life is an integrated part of the experience. Moreover, according to the best models of higher instruction in Europe, great space is devoted to international exchanges. The greatest resource of the Normale is the quality of its students. The research and teaching activities within the Scuola are traditionally divided into two main areas, the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Sciences, and into two different paths, the undergraduate course and the PhD level. Professors, researchers and students live in an unique environment with intensive didactic and laboratory activities and many different kinds of cultural activities.
PhD at Scuola Normale Superiore
The PhD program at SNS consists in three years of study and research. The economic support for PhD students covers accommodation and meals, and includes funds for mobility and research.
The Scuola Normale Superiore is now accepting applications for 32 PhD positions in the Faculty of Sciences. Spring and autumn admission sessions will be held for the 2012/2013 academic year as follows:

4 positions in Condensed Matter Physics, 1 of which In partnership with the Istituto Nanoscienze of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR)
7 positions in Mathematics
3 positions in Mathematics for Finance
4 positions in Neurobiology
