Are you ready to revolutionize the world by advancing Quantum Technology? Do you possess a passion for studying the unknowns that can also benefit mankind? Look no further! We invite you to join our cutting-edge research team as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Quantum Optics and Information Theory.
Our interest and expertise:
Our team at Department of Physics, Simon Fraser University is led by Prof. Hoi-Kwan (Kero) Lau. We have broad interest in quantum optics and quantum information. Our particular focus is on bosonic systems, which are also known as harmonic oscillator or continuous-variable (CV) systems. We have the expertise on studying numerous types of physical platform (e.g. trapped ions, photonics, optomechanics, spin ensembles) and quantum information application (e.g. computing, sensing, simulation, communication). Our ultimate goal is to realize useful quantum technologies with realistic devices. More information about our recent research interest can be referred to our group website: https://www.sfu.ca/physics/laugroup/
Qualifications:
We are looking for a candidate who has:
- Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, or a field related to quantum optics and information theory
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively
- Strong record of publication, with the experience of independently preparing manuscript and seminar presentation
- Willingness to co-supervise junior group members
- Good humour (optional)
Preferred background:
Preference is given to candidates who have research experience in any of the following topics:
- CV quantum information
- Physics of bosonic quantum systems
- Numerical simulation of quantum systems (e.g. QuTip)
- Quantum sensing
- Open quantum systems
- Circuit QED systems
- Quantum error correction
- Many-body physics
Starting Date and Duration:
Starting date is flexible, but it is preferred to be before the end of 2023. The initial appointment is 2 years (1 year + 1 year extension if both parties agree), with the possibility of further extension if funding is available.
Diversity:
At Simon Fraser University, we believe that diversity drives innovation. We recognize the incredible potential that lies within underrepresented minority communities (e.g. women, racialized minorities, persons with disabilities, Indigenous people and LGBTQ2+ individuals), and we are committed to fostering an environment where every individual can thrive. As such, we strongly encourage applicants from underrepresented backgrounds to apply for this postdoctoral position. We are dedicated to ensuring equitable opportunities for all applicants. The selection process will be carried out impartially, and candidates from underrepresented minority groups will be given special consideration.
Application Process:
Interested candidates are invited to submit their application to https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/24858. The application package should include the following items:
1. Cover Letter
2. CV
3. Statement of Purpose (maximum 2 pages) detailing your research interests, achievement, and future plan.
4. Two reference letters
Application Deadline:
This position will be available until filled, but application reviews will begin on July 1
