International Workshop ‘Quantum Interaction 2013’
Dates: 25th - 27th July 2013
Place: University of Leicester, Main Campus - Leicester, Leicestershire, UK.
In Memoriam of Bart D'Hooghe (August 15 - 2012)
Professor at the Free University of Brussels (Belgium); Co-ordinator of the Leo Apostel Centre and IQSA (International Quantum Structure Association) Secretary
GENERAL INFORMATION
The 2013 Quantum Interaction conference at the University of Leicester follows from a list of highly successful meetings held at Stanford University; Oxford University; the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (Saarbruecken); Washington DC; Robert Gordon University (UK) and the Paris School of Economics (France).
Over the last six years, the Quantum Interaction conferences have provided for a debating ground on applications of quantum mechanical formalisms to a variety of areas outside of the natural remit of quantum physics such as information retrieval in computer science; decision making in a variety of social science fields (such as Economics and Psychology) and Biology and other fields of inquiry (like Linguistics). The foundational issues on quantum physics form an integral part of the intellectual exchange delivered at the Quantum Interaction conferences.
This year a special session will be devoted to discussing what the future holds for applying quantum physics outside of its natural area of application.
This conference addresses a multiplicity of themes such as:
Information processing and retrieval
Semantic representation and processing
Logic and epistemology
Cognition and Brain (memory, cognitive processes, consciousness)
Decision theory (political, psychological, cultural, organizational, social, etc.)
Game theory
Finance, economics, and social structures (e.g., organizations, institutions, cultures)
Artificial Intelligence (Logic, planning, agents and multi-agent systems)
Biological systems
We are interested in particular themes within the domains cited above. For instance: how do we interpret 'Entanglement'. What are the role of operators and quantization? Can we use other probabilistic structures?
Papers that address the application of the following QI topics to modelling cognitive, social, and semantic processes for artificial intelligence will be considered favourably:
Vector methods (beyond just proximity)
Entanglement (i.e., non-separability arising from product structures)
Non-classical probabilistic models
Projection and non-commutativity
Operators as predicates
Quantization
How do we get from (apparently) continuous stimuli to clearly discrete expressions?
How does collapse happen?
How does the future (a range of potentialities) become the past (one outcome has been selected and cannot change)?
Normalization and expectation
Prediction
The keynote presentations will be confirmed soon.
The post-conference proceedings of the Quantum Interaction 2013 conference will published by Springer Verlag in its 'Lecture Notes in Computer Science' (LNCS) series. Authors of accepted papers will be required to submit a final version 14 days after the conference to reflect the comments made at the conference.
