Grade 07S; Salary: £29,541 - £36,298 p.a.

Applications for invited for a Research Fellowship within the Oxford Martin Programme on Bio-Inspired Quantum Technologies. This Programme, directed by Professors Vlatko Vedral and Dieter Jaksch, aims to develop a new methodology for overcoming the extreme fragility of quantum memory by learning how biological molecules shield fragile quantum states from the environment.

The Fellowship is one of 6 being appointed within the Programme, and will be held within the Department of Computer Science, under the supervision of Professor Samson Abramsky FRS in the Department of Computer Science, and Dr. Simon Benjamin in the Department of Materials Science.

The post-holder will be involved with performing original inter-disciplinary research and working collaboratively with colleagues from several scientific disciplines.

Applicants should have (or shortly expect to receive) a PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or a closely-related field. In addition you should have a proven background in quantum physics, preferably with relevance to quantum information and foundations, together with publications in leading journals and/or conferences. Knowledge of logical, categorical, and sheaf-theoretic methods, or of non-Markovian scenarios and modelling of open quantum systems, are highly desirable.

The post is available initially for 1 or 2 years in the first instance, with scope for extension. The salary is on the University grade 07S salary scale (currently £29,541-£36,298), and includes membership of USS as well as an annual leave entitlement of 38 days per year (inclusive of all public holidays and university closed periods).
