Research group:

Several postdoctoral fellowships are available in the direction of machine learning and AI applied to discover novel designs and strategies for quantum computing. In addition, the group investigates more broadly artificial scientific discovery and neuromorphic computing (physics for machine learning). Even though prior experience in machine learning and/or quantum information processing would be considered a plus, above all we value proven creativity and scientific competence demonstrated through prior research work, also in unrelated areas.

The interface between machine learning/AI and physics is the primary focus of the Marquardt division at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light (MPL). The Max Planck Society is the leading organization for fundamental research in Germany.

We will start screening end of November 2024 and continue receiving and evaluating applications until the positions have been filled. Multiple of the advertised positions are embedded within the Munich Quantum Valley Bavarian quantum computing initiative. Postdoc positions are typically offered for 2 years initially, with an opportunity for prolongation upon mutual agreement.

The Max Planck Society has set itself the goal of employing more severely handicapped people. Applications from the severely handicapped are expressly welcome. The Society wants to increase the proportion of women in areas where they are underrepresented. Women are therefore expressly invited to apply.

Please contact us by sending an email to Florian.Marquardt@mpl.mpg.de, always cc Gesine.Murphy@mpl.mpg.de ! Please send a CV, a list of publications, and the names of two expert references (people who would be able to supply letters of reference when asked).
