Quantum measurement lies at the crossroad between quantum foundations and quantum technologies. One the one hand, the measurement problem has irrigated all debates about the meaning and completeness of quantum theory - On the other, measurements are key processes in quantum technologies, as they bring results from the quantum level to the end user. The candidate will have the opportunity and freedom to explore the energetic side of quantum measurement from various fundamental viewpoints - from ultimate energetic bounds to their relation to accuracy and efficiency, from energetic advantages to intimate relations between energy cost and (ir)reversibility. Expect experimental collaborations! Expertise in quantum trajectories and superconducting qubits will be a strong plus.
