Job type:

Application deadline:

Saturday, October 31, 2020

A Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position is available in the area of quantum technologies, supported by EPSRC’s Quantum Communications Hub (https://www.quantumcommshub.net/about-us/). The Hub, led by the University of York, is a major collaboration between several universities and industrial partners and funding has just been announced for five more years. The role of the Hub is to develop new quantum communications technologies as part of the UK National Quantum Technologies Programme. This post is specifically to work with Prof Stefano Pirandola on high-rate CVQKD systems for secure communication in fibre, free-space and satellite links. These systems will be based on theoretical work, including protocol optimisation and channel capacity analysis, for various types of thermal-loss environments. Advanced quantum encoding and data processing techniques will be incorporated in order to greatly improve the practical robustness of these new systems.

The candidate should have the following essential specifications:

- First degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electronic or Electrical Engineering, or similar
- Doctoral level research experience in quantum information (PhD or working towards PhD), PhD desirable
- Expertise in quantum cryptography and security proofs
- Knowledge of continuous variable quantum information and/or quantum optics
