Post-doctoral position in Integrated Entangled Photon Sources

Job type:

Application deadline:

Tuesday, December 30, 2008

ICFO - The Institute of Photonic Sciences, a centre based in Castelldefels (Barcelona), devoted to the research and education of the optical and photonic sciences, at the highest international level, is looking for a highly-motivated post-doctoral researcher to develop and exploit new entangled photon sources based on integrated optical technologies. This is a companion project to the European Space Agency project “Photonic Transceiver for Space Communication.” The researcher will join a collaboration of two ICFO quantum optics groups and one optoelectronics group working with ultra-bright, integrated entangled photon sources for quantum communications applications.

The ideal candidate will have experience with parametric down-conversion, entangled pair
generation, single-photon and coincidence detection, and measurement of quantum
entanglement. As part of the collaboration, the post-doctoral researcher will have access to the resources of three well-equipped laboratories, including cw and ultra-fast lasers, detectors, spectrometers, fibre and integration technologies, and a considerable budget for experimental development. The collaboration has recently hired a Ph.D. optical engineer with expertise in micro-optical technologies; collaboration with this person is essential to maximize the potential of this multi-disciplinary project.

Eligibility and Conditions
Candidates must hold an internationally-recognized PhD-equivalent degree (or evidence of its completion in the near future) in a field of science related to quantum optics and atomic physics.
No restrictions of citizenship apply to the ICFO post-doctoral contracts.
The position is available for 2 years, salary depending on experience.

Application procedure
Potential applicants may contact Morgan Mitchell (morgan.mitchell@icfo.es).
The formal application should be submitted by e-mail to: icfojobs@icfo.es. E-mail submissions must include the mailing label “CP” and your last name printed before the label. Suitable candidates are requested to submit:
· A presentation letter with a declaration of interest,
· A Curriculum Vitae, including full address, a contact phone number and e-mail address,
· The contact e-mail of three potential referees.
Applications can also be submitted by post to the Post-Doc Screening Committee.
Candidates should be willing to be contacted by phone during the selection process.

Deadlines
The call will remain open until suitable candidates are identified.
