Post Doctoral Research Associate in Quantum Foundations at DAMPT, Cambridge

Job type:

Application deadline:

Thursday, June 9, 2011

The Department (see http://www.damtp.cam.ac.uk/) invites applications for a post-doctoral research position to commence on 1 October 2011. The successful candidate will be associated with the Centre for Quantum Information and Foundations (formerly Centre for Quantum Computation) of the University of Cambridge (see http://cam.qubit.org), to work on a scientific research project on Mathematical Characterizations of Quantum Reality, funded by the John Templeton Foundation. Among the project's aims are to identify precise mathematical descriptions of observer-independent physical reality consistent with quantum theory, Lorentz symmetry and experiment, and to identify new tests of quantum theory against hypothetical alternatives.

Applications are especially welcomed from highly motivated researchers with a PhD in mathematics or theoretical physics and a strong background in the broad areas of quantum foundations, quantum field theory and/or quantum information theory.

For any further queries on the scientific details and requirements of the post, please contact Dr Adrian Kent (A.P.A.Kent (at) damtp.cam.ac.uk).

Applications should include a full CV, publications list, a summary of research interests (up to one page), and a completed form CHRIS6 Parts I and III (downloadable from http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/personnel/forms/chris6/).

Applications quoting reference LE08207 should be emailed or posted (to arrive by 10 June 2011) to: Ms Virginia Mullins, DAMTP, Centre for Mathematical Sciences, University of Cambridge, Wilberforce Road, Cambridge CB3 0WA (Email: vm207@damtp.cam.ac.uk). Applicants should also arrange for three professional references to reach Ms Mullins by 10 June 2011.
