ICFO – The Institute of Photonic Sciences, (Barcelona, Spain), a research center devoted to research and education of the optical and photonic sciences at the highest international level, is offering a postdoctoral position in the research area of experimental quantum optics to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic young scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment.
The successful candidates will join the Atomic Quantum Optics group led by Prof. Morgan Mitchell, and be involved in the research activities (current and emerging) within the scope of the Quantum Simulation project QUIC ("QUantum Insulators and
Conductors", EU FET-Proactive, starting 2015). The consortium includes leading groups in quantum simulation from LENS, ICFO, ETH Zurich, Trento and the Institut d'Optique.
The research will focus on measurement-induced entanglement of macroscopic numbers of atoms and entanglement dynamics in cold and ultra-cold gases. We recently demonstrated singlet-type entanglement of > 500.000 atoms by quantum non-demolition measurement in a cold atomic ensemble [Behbood et al. PRL 2014, Sewell et al. Nature Photonics 2013], and have a parallel experimental programme to study measurement-induced entanglement in rubidium spinor condensates.
REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS
Candidates must hold an internationally-recognized Ph.D. degree (or evidence of its completion in the nearest future) in Physics, or related fields. The successful candidate should have demonstrated ability in experimental cold atom physics.
Two positions are available immediately. Salary up to the Marie-Curie level, commensurate with experience.
No restrictions of citizenship or gender apply to the ICFO post-doctoral contracts.
APPLICATION PROCESS
The formal application should be submitted online via http://jobs.icfo.es/index.php?detail=214.
Suitable candidates are requested to submit:
- Presentation letter with a declaration of interest,
- Curriculum Vitae, including full address, a contact phone number and e-mail address,
- The contact e-mail of two potential referees.
Candidates should be willing to be contacted by phone during the selection process.
Candidates may contact icfojobs@icfo.eu for informal inquiries regarding the application, as well as address scientific inquiries to Prof. Morgan Mitchell at morgan.mitchell@icfo.eu.
The call will remain open until suitable candidates are identified.
