Postdoc available in non equilibrium thermodynamics of quantum many-body systems

Job type:

An opening for a postdoctoral fellow to work at the QuSys Group at Trinity College Dublin has become available. There is some flexibility in the precise starting date but we would like to fill the position by October 2021 if possible. The position is for an initial period of 3 years (2+1) with some possibility of extending for another year. The position is funded under the EPRSC-SFI collaborative grant “Quamness” between the groups of Prof. Mauro Paternostro (Queens University Belfast) and Prof. Stephen Clark (Bristol).

The QuSys group is a dynamic diverse and international group lead by Prof. John Goold. The groups interests are wide ranging from thermodynamics of quantum systems and quantum transport in non-equilibrium steady states (NESS) to quantum information and many-body physics. The salary is competitive and will be adjusted depending on experience. Further particulars can be discussed in an arranged online meeting.

Candidates with prior experience in any of the following topics would be interesting for us: Quantum transport, thermodynamics of NESS, quantum spin chain dynamics, thermalisation of quantum systems and non-equilibrium statistical mechanics. We are particularly interested in candidates that have experience in numerical simulation of quantum dynamics of many-body systems but all applications will be considered. Applicants from under-represented groups are particularly welcome to apply.

In addition to a dynamic scientific environment in Trinity – the prospective applicant will have option to gain experience in teaching on the new MSc in Quantum Science and technology and student supervision at various levels.

For the application please send a brief cover letter outlining research interests and track record, a CV and the names of two references to gooldj@tcd.ie
