The Faculty of Physics of the University of Vienna announces the position of a
Professor of
Theoretical Quantum Optics
(full time position under private law, limited to a period of 3 years). The University of Vienna intends to increase the number of women, particularly in high-level positions, and therefore specifically invites applications by women. Among equally qualified applicants women will receive preferential consideration.
The professor will be embedded into the key research area ‘quantum optics, quantum nanophysics and quantum information’. The professorship shall fit to the existing expertise in quantum optics, quantum metrology, quantum optomechanics, hybrid quantum systems, quantum information processing, quantum simulation, quantum interferometry, foundations of quantum physics, as well as quantum physics at the interface to classical and gravitational theories. The professor is expected to participate in teaching at all levels (bachelor, master, PhD).
Successful candidates will have the following qualifications:
PhD and post-doctoral experience at a university or other research institution
(Austrian or equivalent international academic degree in the relevant field)
outstanding research and publication record, with an excellent reputation as an active member of the international academic community (Habilitation (venia docendi) or equivalent international qualification in the relevant field is desirable)
experience in designing, procuring and directing major research projects, as well as the willingness and ability to team leadership of research groups
experience in university teaching, and willingness and ability to teach at all curricular levels (Bachelor, Master, PhD), to supervise theses, and to further the work of junior academic colleagues

University professors will be classified according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Staff into the salary group A1. The salary will be individually negotiated under consideration of the previous career development and in case of an appointment from abroad of the different tax situation.
