Your mission:

The Quantum Computing Group at the High-Performance Computing Department of the Institute for Software Technology at DLR is focused on application-focused algorithms for near-term quantum computing. In particular, the group works with fundamental researchers as well as possible end-users to achieve the goal of finding quantum advantage for useful applications.

For the latter, the focus is on combinatorial optimization, machine learning and quantum simulation for aerospace applications and beyond. The group aims for close collaborations with hardware developers (hardware-software co-design) and develops close-to-hardware software layers for optimal performance.

The group has strong collaborations with NASA Ames Quantum Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and the Helmholtz-Quantum-Center at Jülich Research Center. Research secondments at these institutions are possible.

Your tasks:

extend, develop, and analyse new quantum algorithms for near-term quantum computing devices
implement and test new algorithm paradigms with real-world data sets from the above applications
follow and review the latest technological and algorithmic developments in the field of near-term quantum computers
lead and contribute to the writing of research proposals, technical reports, scientific articles and internal strategy papers
mentoring of students

Your qualifications:

PhD in physics, computer science, mathematics or similar
experience in relevant postdoctoral work or research experience in the field of quantum computing
experience in software development (preferably Python, C++)
proven organizational and communication skills
ability to work independently and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
good skills in German and English writing
experienced in publishing related work in peer reviewed journals and in contributing to obtaining new funding in the areas above

Your benefits:
