Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) has a vacancy in the Algorithms and Complexity research group for a postdoctoral researcher.
This position involves research into the computer-science aspects of quantum computing and quantum information theory, in close cooperation with Prof. Ronald de Wolf. Specifically, the project will focus on the development of new quantum algorithms and the analysis of their complexity, development of new quantum communication protocols and the role entanglement plays in such protocols, and applications of quantum techniques to problems in classical computer science and mathematics. The position is on the EU-funded QALGO project, for one or two years, and can start at any time after June 1, 2013.
Candidates are required to have a completed PhD in the area of computer science, mathematics, or physics. A strong track record is needed in or related to the computer-science aspects of quantum computing and quantum information theory, as exemplified by publications in conferences like STOC, FOCS, Complexity, ICALP, QIP and/or journals like Journal of the ACM, SIAM Journal on computing, Theory of Computing, Physical Review Letters, Quantum information & computation. Needed qualifications for candidates include proven research talent and good academic writing and presentation skills. Candidates are expected to have an excellent command of English.
Terms and conditions:
The terms of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement for Research Centres ("CAO-onderzoeksinstellingen"). The gross monthly salary for an employee on a full time basis, depending on relevant work experience, ranges from € 3,121 to € 4,439. The appointment will be for a period of one or two years. Employees are also entitled to a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8.33%. Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) is the Dutch national research institute for mathematics and computer science and linked to the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO).
