Quantum electronics, II. Institute of Physics, University of Cologne
We study how the fundamental laws of quantum mechanics govern
electronic transport in micro or nano-devices made of exotic quantum
materials. In particular, topological phases represent an ideal
playground with rich and exotic physics connected to the peculiar
topological properties of the electronic wave functions in those
materials.
We have developed an expertise in quantum electrical transport with a
specialty on dynamical transport at the nano-second scale, in
combination with noise and current correlation techniques. Our
experiments are performed at extremely low temperatures (20 mK) and
often under strong magnetic fields (up to 9 T).
With these experiments, we wish to explore the novel physics of
topological matter, in particular evidence the presence of Majorana
fermions, and propose prototypes for innovative devices based on these
materials.
