The Advanced Concepts and Technologies (AC&T) group of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking talented Physicists to develop state-of-the-art next generation superconducting electronics and advanced computing technologies. Qualified Physicists will have an opportunity to conduct fundamental research and innovative experiments involving superconducting quantum annealing circuits as part of the IARPA Quantum Enhanced Optimization (QEO) program. The program goals include achieving breakthrough, super-classical performance and designs leading to speedups of 10,000-fold and beyond. Employees will be stationed on site at MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington, MA and will collaborate with multiple universities.
Responsibilities may include:
• Conducting cryogenic experiments on advanced superconducting quantum annealing circuits and test beds
• Collecting and analyzing data
• Debugging of experiments
• Developing novel measurement methods and software
• Coordinating test schedules and strategies
• Collaborating with Northrop Grumman designers and device theorists, university partners, and government-furnished foundry staff
• Traveling to Northrop Grumman sites, program meetings, and conferences
• Publishing novel experimental results
This job may be filled at a level 3 or level 4 based on the qualifications below.
Basic Qualifications for a level 3:
**Must have a Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline (or will complete by December 2017)
**US citizenship
**Track record of high quality research
**Experience in laboratory measurements and analyzing experimental data
Basic Qualifications for a level 4:
**Must have a Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline plus at least 4 years of relevant experience
**US citizenship
**Track record of high quality research
**Experience in leading technical teams, laboratory measurements and analyzing experimental data
Preferred Qualifications include one or more of the following:
**Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
**Familiarity with quantum computing and quantum annealing
**Familiarity with cryogenic experiments
