The theory group at the Institute for Quantum Information of the Jülich-Aachen Reasearch Alliance (JARA) is looking for highly motivated candidates to fill a fully-funded PhD position. The doctoral degree will be awarded by RWTH University in Aachen and the research is conducted at Forschungszentrum Jülich.
Supercomputing quantum information processing devices are real possibilities for realizing quantum computers. Quantum computer processors are extremely powerful and logically-different form of computation. Realizing them require special theoretical and experimental resources, both of which are currently being developed at Peter Grünberg Institute Theoretical Nanoelectronics (PGI-2). Making such a processor in the lab requires perfecting quantum bits and gates to above fault tolerance threshold, which is one of the main research goals in the group of Dr. Ansari. These quantum bits and gates should be manufactured in large scales (i.e. millions) to reveal quantum advantage. This sets a roadmap for developments in the field and needs active modification of quantum models for such processors. We focus of fundamental studies in diverse theoretical areasin the field of quantum technology, such as: theory of quantum error correction codes, circuit and cavity QED, quantum machine learning and computational complexity, etc.
Your Job:
Your doctoral project will focus on theoretical studies of physical implementations of quantum information processing, such as superconducting qubits, and related enabling quantum technologies.
You will study, develope, and conduct research on simulating quantum devices using modern theoretical techniques such as circuit QED.
The project will connect you to active theoretical and experimental collaboration with leading international groups.
Your Profile:
Master’s degree (or equivalent) in theoretical condensed matter physics or a related field
Proficiency in English
Advantageous, not mandatory, are experiences in quantum transport, superconducting qubits, and related topics
Our Offer:
We work on the very latest issues that impact our society and are offering you the chance to actively help in shaping the change! We offer ideal conditions for you to complete your doctoral degree:
Comprehensive training courses and individual opportunities for personal and professional research development in the theoretical physics of solid state quantum computing
Extensive company health management
Ideal conditions for balancing work and private life, as well as a family-friendly corporate policy
Flexible working hours and 30 days of annual leave
