Integrated quantum photonics based on single photon emitters in 2D materials

We propose a PhD position funded by the French national science foundation (ANR), with a possibility of doing a Master thesis of 4 to 6 months beforehand. The position leads to a doctoral degree of University Paris-Saclay (which is ranked world number 13 in Shanghai ranking).

Job description:
- Fundamental investigation of quantum properties of new colour centres (artificial atoms) in 2D materials using experimental quantum optics techniques
- Design (using simulation tools) and realisation of integrated quantum devices combining quantum emitters and photonic nanostructures.
The long-term goal is to build a fully integrated quantum photonics chip based on position-controlled identical single photon emitters.

The project will take place in Paris region, in France. The GEMaC laboratory is a part of University of Versailles / University Paris-Saclay, which is ranked world number 13 in Shanghai ranking. The Quantum Nanophotonics team has been recently hosting a new activity focusing on colour centres in wide gap materials for quantum information science. The laboratory is fully equipped for the project. The group is part of a wide and lively environment for quantum science in Paris-Saclay and Paris region. Your profile:
• master degree about to be completed in a recognised university, in optics, condensed matter and/or quantum science, and interest for optical quantum technologies
• previous experience in experimental quantum optics, photonics, 2D materials or spectroscopy is appreciated, as well as some experience in programming
• proficiency in English (or French)
• excellent problem-solving, teamwork, communication skills, independence, persistence

- the master thesis can take four months or more, before the end of July 2022 (depending on the candidate availabilities)
- the PhD will start 1st October 2022 and will last 3 years (the starting date can be advanced depending on the candidate availabilities).
