We are inviting applications to fill a PhD position to join the theory research group led by Carlos Gonzalez-Ballestero. The group is sponsored by the Quantum Nanophysics, Optics, and Information group that is jointly affiliated with the Institute for Theoretical Physics of the University of Innsbruck and the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Innsbruck, Austria.

Summary of the project:
The candidate will work on the theoretical understanding of spin waves and their quanta – magnons – in magnetic nanostructures. The PhD student will join our ongoing collaboration with the experimental group of Andrii Chumak (University of Vienna) and the theory group of Oriol Romero-Isart (University of Innsbruck). Our aim is to propose novel methods to exploit the unique properties of spin waves for future classical and quantum technologies. The project requires both analytical and numerical work and the combination of theoretical techniques from quantum optics, nanophotonics, and spin physics.

Requisites and how to apply:
Candidates should have a background in theoretical magnonics and/or quantum physics with strong analytical and numerical skills. Our group is committed to contribute toward gender balance in research and thus female candidates are especially encouraged to apply.
