ICFO – The Institute of Photonic Sciences (http://www.icfo.eu) is offering an engineering position to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic young scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment. The successful candidate will be part of a newly funded project carried out jointly by the Optoelectronics group led by V. Pruneri, the Experimental quantum optics group led by M. Mitchell and the Quantum information theory group led by A. Acin. The proposed project is aimed at developing an extremely fast, integrated and low cost quantum random number generator for applications in the fields of secure communications, gaming and computer simulation.
Besides being responsible for the implementation of the ultra-fast quantum random number generator system, the candidate will also collaborate in other ongoing projects, including those related to free space optical communications and sources, developed within the European Space Agency framework.
Eligibility
Candidates desirably hold an internationally-recognized PhD-equivalent degree (or evidence of its completion in the nearest future). Nevertheless, outstanding candidates with a Master-equivalent degree may be taken into account, as well.
The candidate should possess a strong engineering background in devices for optical communication and preferably knowledge in quantum optics. Experience with the following topics is highly desirable for the position: RF hardware and electronics, laser diode and photodetection system design, programming skills (c++, VHDL, Matlab) and free-space optical communication.
Conditions
The contract is offered for a period of one year, with the possibility for extension. The position is full-time. Remuneration according to knowledge and experience.
No restrictions of citizenship apply to the ICFO research contracts.
