We are offering several PhD and postdoctoral positions to well-qualified and highly motivated researchers who would like to enhance their career in basic research in theoretical quantum science. The successful candidate will work in the research group led by Hans Briegel at the University of Innsbruck. We are a leading research group working in quantum information and computation with a strong focus on interdisciplinary research. The advertised positions will be funded through an ERC Advanced Grant on Artificial Agency and Learning in Quantum Environments. Topics to be investigated include, e.g., models and applications of quantum-enhanced machine learning, the development of interpretable AI for basic science (with a focus on quantum information science), and the study of artificial agency, more generally.
Applicants for a PhD position should hold a masters degree in physics, mathematics, or computer science. Full commitment to research and the willingness to work in an open and friendly interdisciplinary research team is expected.
Applicants for a postdoctoral position must have demonstrated excellent research accomplishments in the past. The successful candidate should ideally have a PhD in Physics and a research background in theoretical quantum information or quantum optics, with strong interdisciplinary competence. Additional expertise in Computer Science/Machine Learning and/or Philosophy is expected. Initial appointments are typically for two years.
