Doctoral Studentship in Optical and Quantum Optical Communications for UK/EU students

Job type:

Application deadline:

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

The School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Leeds has a doctoral training grant available for UK and EU students. These prestigious awards are made by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). Awards are available in the area of Optical and Quantum Optical Communications.

The awardee will work at the intersection of two exciting areas of research: Optical Communication Networks and the developing field of Quantum Cryptography, and will be in close contact with researchers and scientists in the Institute of Integrated Information Systems as well as the Quantum Information Group at the University of Leeds. Available projects include the theoretical study of Multiple-access Quantum Key Distribution Networks over local/metropolitan area networks, as well as quantum repeater approaches to long-distance quantum communication. In both cases, we are looking for integrated architectures that serve both quantum and classical needs of possibly public customers. Cost and performance measures will be used to compare and contrast different available options. Mid- to long-term security solutions will be advised for a nation-wide hybrid quantum-classical network.

For more information regarding the projects please contact Dr M Razavi at m.razavi@leeds.ac.uk. For more information on how to apply please visit
