We are offering a PhD position in the research area of Quantum Information Processing at RWTH Aachen University, Germany. The focus of the PhD will be on Quantum Error Correction and Fault Tolerance, in particular exploring practical implementations of dynamically generated logical qubits. The candidate will be embedded in the research environment of the Institute for Quantum Information at RWTH Aachen and Forschungszentrum Jülich (https://www.quantuminfo.physik.rwth-aachen.de/cms/Quantuminfo/~snum/Das-...) as part of the cluster of excellence "Matter and Light for Quantum Computing" (https://ml4q.de/). The PhD position is fully funded according to German salary standards (75% E13/TVOED, minimum three years). The candidate should have an MSc degree (or equivalent) in theoretical physics or a related field with a strong interest in quantum computation. Previous exposure to topics of quantum error correction would be beneficial but is not strictly mandatory. We highly value diversity in our research environment and especially encourage applications by members of under-represented groups. In the application, please provide a cover letter (including a motivation statement) of one page and attach CV, transcripts and the contact details of one potential reference person, ideally as a single pdf sent to rispler@physik.rwth-aachen.de. The tentative deadline for applications is 31.1.2023 but later applications will be considered until the position is filled.
