Applications are invited for PhD positions in experimental quantum optics and quantum information at Laboratoire Kastler Brossel (LKB), in Paris (France).
The proposed research is part of the ERC Starting Grant “HybridNet: Hybrid quantum networks” led by Prof. Julien Laurat. This project aims at developing the capabilities of quantum networks based on the mixing of two kinds of carriers, which are generally used separately in quantum information science, the discrete and the continuous-variables. In this framework, the team tackles exploratory research on such optical hybrid implementations both on the theoretical and experimental sides. One main goal is to demonstrate the first building blocks involving simultaneously light-matter interfaces and non-Gaussian states and operations. The successful applicants will play a key role in this stimulating research, and will benefit from the lively academic environment provided by UPMC and the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris center.
The experimental activities are developing in three different laboratories:
• Efficient light-matter interfaces based on atoms trapped in the vicinity of nanofibers
• Quantum memory in free-space high-density atomic ensembles and collective excitation engineering
• Generation, characterization and processing of non-Gaussian states of light, including hybrid qubit-qumode entanglement and quantum gates.
Eligibility and conditions: Candidates must hold an internationally recognized Master degree (or completion in 2014). Background in AMO is strongly appreciated.
Application procedure: Inquiries and applications should be sent to Julien Laurat (julien.laurat@upmc.fr). Applications should include a detailed CV, a brief statement of research interests and two names of potential referees. The call will remain open until suitable candidates are identified. The start date is flexible.
