The cold atoms group at the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nottingham, UK, is looking for a motivated experimentalist to join our work on photonic quantum memories. In this project, we will implement elementary quantum operations with collective excitations of an atomic ensemble. By miniaturising ensemble based quantum memories and integration in an atom chip environment, we will explore routes to expand such operations to universal quantum computation with multi-mode memories, best described as holographic quantum computing. Candidates should have a strong background in experimental ultra-cold atom physics and/or quantum optics.
