Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in quantum foundations at the Centre for Quantum Information and Communication at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). The researcher will work with Dr. Ognyan Oreshkov within the framework of the consortium project “The Quantum Information Structure of Spacetime (QISS), Second Phase”, funded by the John Templeton Foundation.
This is an interdisciplinary initiative in Quantum Information and Quantum Gravity, bringing together theorists, experimentalists, and philosophers, with the goal of unravelling the role of quantum information in gravity (see http://www.qiss.fr). The Brussels group investigates the link between spacetime and quantum theory from an operational and informational perspective, through the study of concepts such as quantum causal structures, symmetries, and quantum reference frames.
The position is for 1 year, with the possibility of extension for a second year. The start date is expected to be around the beginning of 2023 but can be negotiated.
Applicants are required to have a doctoral degree in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline before the start date of the position. They should have obtained their doctoral degree no more than 8 years before the start date of the position and should not have resided or carried out their main activity in Belgium for more than 2 years during the 3 years preceding the start date (international mobility rule).
Applicants are expected to have a strong interest in foundations, as well as a proven record of research in at least one of the areas of quantum foundations, quantum information science, quantum field theory, or quantum gravity.
Applications should be sent to Ognyan Oreshkov at ognyan.oreshkov@ulb.be and should include: 1) motivation letter; 2) CV including a list of publications; 3) research statement; 4) reference letters by two referees sent directly by the referees.
For full consideration, applications should be submitted by 25 September 2022.
Please direct informal enquiries to: ognyan.oreshkov@ulb.be
