Job type: Postdoc; Staff Researcher / Engineer (experimental)
Application deadline: Open until filled (applications reviewed on a rolling basis)
The Quantum Computing Hardware Laboratory at TII’s Quantum Research Centre (QRC) develops and deploys superconducting quantum devices and complete quantum processing setups. Supported by world-class infrastructure and a multidisciplinary collaborative environment, we design, simulate, and fabricate superconducting QPUs; host and operate them in multiple dilution refrigerators; and calibrate, benchmark, and characterize devices for quantum computation. Our mission is to develop a full-stack quantum computer in the UAE, and we invite passionate scientists and engineers to contribute to this effort. The experimental group is directed by Prof. Frederico Brito within one of QRC’s six R&D groups. Learn more: tii.ae/quantum.
Roles & responsibilities (select one or more focus areas)
- Design & simulation: design and simulation (electromagnetic and Hamiltonian modeling) of superconducting circuits and QPUs; modeling qubits, couplers, and resonators.
- Micro/nanofabrication: Cleanroom process development (e-beam/photolithography, thin films, deposition techniques such as sputtering and evaporation, etching).
- Quantum measurement & calibration: QPU bring-up (initialization) and tune-up (optimization), cryogenic wiring, randomized benchmarking, noise characterization, and yield improvement.
- RF & control electronics: Microwave-chain design, pulse engineering, FPGA/AWG integration, and signal integrity.
- Cryogenics: Operation, maintenance, and upgrades of dilution refrigerators and cryogenic infrastructure.
- Quantum Experiments: Conception, design, and implementation of fundamental quantum physics experiments as well as quantum circuit protocols.
Desired profile
Candidates at all levels (from early-career researchers to experienced engineers/staff scientists) with expertise in one or more areas above. A PhD in a relevant discipline (physics, electrical and computer engineering, quantum engineering, materials science, applied physics, or related fields) is preferred; however, applicants with an MSc and substantial experimental or industry experience will also be strongly considered. Prior hands-on experience with superconducting qubits, cryogenics, RF/microwave measurement, or cleanroom processing is highly valued.
Terms
- Initial appointment: up to 5 years, depending on the role (extensions possible by mutual interest).
- Compensation & support: Globally competitive salaries with generous personal and family allowances, relocation support, and robust travel/equipment budgets.
- Start date: Flexible; positions available immediately.
