About CIQUANTA-PB
CIQUANTA-PB, the International Center for Quantum Computing and Quantum Technologies of Paraíba, is a new research and innovation centre being developed in João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brazil.
The centre is part of a strategic effort by the Government of Paraíba, in cooperation with the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, to build national capacity in quantum computing, quantum communication, and quantum technologies.
CIQUANTA-PB is planned as a platform for scientific research, advanced training, technological development, and international cooperation. Its mission is not only to host quantum computing infrastructure, but also to create a long-term research environment capable of supporting new applications, training specialized human resources, and strengthening Brazil’s position in frontier quantum science and technology.
The centre is expected to host two quantum computers, with announced capacities of 20 and 100 qubits. These systems are intended to support research and development in areas such as quantum algorithms, quantum simulation, optimization, quantum machine learning, materials modelling, hardware improvement, and applied quantum technologies.
A central goal of CIQUANTA-PB is to connect infrastructure with people. The project emphasizes the formation of highly qualified researchers, integration with universities and graduate programmes, scientific collaboration, and the development of a local and national community in quantum technologies.
Within the PROFIX-PB call, CIQUANTA-PB is associated with the recruitment and fixation of PhD-level researchers in Paraíba. Selected researchers are expected to contribute to the consolidation of the centre through research projects aligned with quantum science, technological innovation, human-resource training, and national and international cooperation.
CIQUANTA-PB is also intended to operate as a bridge between academic research and strategic applications. Its areas of interest include quantum computing, quantum communication, quantum information, quantum technologies, frontier physics, computing, mathematics, electrical engineering, materials, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and related fields.
By combining research infrastructure, postgraduate training, international collaboration, and applied innovation, CIQUANTA-PB aims to position Paraíba as an emerging hub for quantum technologies in Brazil and Latin America.
