The Cold and Controlled Molecules and Ions Group at the University of Basel (Switzerland), headed by Prof. Stefan Willitsch, specialises in the preparation and control of cold molecules and molecular ions and their applications. The research of the group is highly interdisciplinary, situated at the interface between quantum optics, quantum physics, chemistry and the nanosciences. Specifically, the work of the group is devoted to the generation of cold molecules and ions, the development of quantum technologies for single trapped molecules for applications in precision molecular spectroscopy and chemistry and the study of molecular collisions and chemical reactions under cold and extremely controlled conditions. The group enjoys various collaborations with experimentalists and theoreticians in both physics and chemistry departments worldwide as well as with industrial partners in the quantum and photonics industries.
