Experimental quantum communications

Very Excited to announce this opportunity: 2 fully funded PhD openings in my lab in the domain of secure quantum communications! Looking for highly motivated students who wish to contribute to cutting edge research in a very promising area of quantum technologies. We have been working on quantum communications for several years now with a series of exciting results and energetic students who wish to make a difference and contribute to India’s growth in this field should apply!

The Quantum Photonics Laboratory at Heriot-Watt University seeks a talented and motivated scientist to start a new line of research on quantum technology with stoichiometric rare-earth crystals for quantum memory applications. Significant goals include the characterization of the optical and spin properties of different crystals, optimization of their electronic and spin coherence, and the implementation of quantum memory protocols in both bulk crystals and waveguide structures.

Telecommunications operators have an increasing need for security in their networks in order to face malicious intents and provide their customers with highly secure services (i.e. defense, banking, health, 4.0 industry…).

Background information-- The NRC is Canada’s federal research and technology organization. The AMO physics team at NRC has a long history of scientific excellence dating from the foundational work of Gerhard Herzberg. The team currently consists of active theoretical and experimental staff scientists with expertise in ultrafast femto- and attosecond physics, nonlinear optics, quantum optics, quantum electronics, fibre photonics and related fields.
