Job description: Research assistant (PhD-student) with 67% part-time job, limited to 3 years.
Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L FU. Research in theoretical physics, with a focus on the theory of engineered quantum systems and quantum information processing, assistance with teaching at the physics department of the Free University Berlin.
We have a fully funded PhD position available to work on the theory of cooperative effects in optomechanics and nanomechanics with André Xuereb (andre.xuereb@um.edu.mt) and Vittorio Peano (vittorio.peano@um.edu.mt) at the University of Malta. The project is theoretical, but we expect several strong interactions with many of our experimental colleagues. For more information please read the sample description at: https://goo.gl/rqtdiH
The quantum group at the University of Malta is seeking one or more PhD students and a post-doctoral researcher to work on the Horizon 2020 project HOT: Hybrid Optomechanical Technologies. These positions are accompanied by a generous salary, a travel and equipment budget, and are fully funded for three years. We also promise copious sunshine and great beaches.

PhD Scholarship in the Engineering of Quantum Sensors and Networks
Physical Sciences/Other Physical Sciences
One of the remaining puzzles in modern physics is the transition from quantum to classical physics. While many models, like decoherence, have been proposed, experimental tests remain very challenging. One of the most promising avenues for observing quantum effects at a macroscopic scale has been through optomechanics in which the radiation pressure of light is used to probe and control the dynamics of mechanical oscillators.
