Quantum Sensing and Metrology

This research fellowship in the field of quantum sensing will be undertaken in both the ESA Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality (D/TEC) and the Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes (D/EOP). In this way, as a Research Fellow you will benefit from the blue-sky, theoretical focus of the Advanced Concepts Team within D/TEC at ESTEC during your first year, transferring in your second year to the D/EOP Future Missions Division (EOP-FM) to enable the practical application of your research.

We are starting a research program into ultrafast quantum sensing and metrology. We are in particular looking for candidates with a background in quantum and nonlinear optics/quantum sensing/quantum metrology. The project aims to develop ultrafast probe states for doing sensing in regions of the electromagnetic spectrum beyond the visible/near-visible band. The selected candidate will also be jointly advised by Prof. J.E. Sipe from the University of Toronto.

We are looking for a motivated researcher to join our new Quantum Magnetometry Facility, based on a scanning single spin quantum sensor operating down to cryogenic temperatures. The candidate is expected to push research using the facility, investigating quantum many-body physics and magnetism in 2D materials and moiré heterostructures.
