The specific research focus is the development of optically pumped magnetometers (based on cesium atomic vapor) and their applications including medical applications. The project is funded by the EU/EPSRC QuantERA project: Continuously Monitored Quantum Sensors: Smart Tools and Applications.

The Light-Matter Interactions for Quantum Technologies Unit (Prof. S. Nic Chormaic), invites applications for several experienced researchers in experimental cold atom physics. Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in theoretical condensed matter physics. The successful candidate is expected to have a PhD in condensed-matter theory and will work in the group of Professor Mark Dykman in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Michigan State University. She or he will participate in the research of electrons on the helium surface, with the emphasis on the spin dynamics, decoherence mechanisms, and the operation of spin-based qubits. The initial appointment will be one year, but is renewable for an additional year.

We are looking for a quantum theorist to join our Quantum Theory Team in Edinburgh. This position will be focused on (i)
 developing open systems tools for modelling
 nanoscale quantum devices with unprecedented accuracy and efficiency; and (ii) applying these 
to real devices and seeing them tested by our experimental collaborators.
This position is part of a joint project between the University of St Andrews (Dr Brendon Lovett and Dr Jonathan Keeling) and Heriot-Watt University (Dr Erik Gauger), involving a team of seven
