This event marks the end of the very successful Research Training Network EMALI funded by the EU. In addition to the presentation of results from EMALI work by the group of EMALI-trained fellows, confirmed speakers from outside the network are Jean Dalibard, Jeff Kimble and Andreas Wallraff. Furthermore, the program includes the following speakers, who are members of the network: Ennio Arimondo, Michael Fleischhauer, Atac Imamoglu, Giovanna Morigi, David Petrosyan, Eugene Polzik, Ferdinand Schmidt-Kaler, Nikolay Vitanov, Ian Walmsley, and Anton Zeilinger.

Controlled Quantum Dynamics Summer School

Our first CQD-DTC Summer School will be held in conjuction with the QuAMP Summer School organised by the division of Atomic, Molecular Optical and Plasma Physics of the Institute of Physics. QICS School: Foundational Structures in Quantum Comp & Inf

This event marks the end of the EU FP6 STREP QICS on Foundational Structures in Quantum Computation and Information. It consists on extended tutorials on the main research strands within QICS, namely:

The unavoidable presence of noise is thought to be one of the major problems to solve in order to pave the way for implementing quantum information technologies in realistic physical platforms. However, here we show a clear example in which noise, in terms of dephasing, may enhance the capability of transmitting not only classical but also quantum information, encoded in quantum systems, through communication networks.

Breakthrough in Electron Spin Control Brings Quantum Computers Closer to Reality

Researchers from two National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded Materials Research Science and Engineering Centers at Princeton University and the University of California, Santa Barbara made a significant breakthrough in the worldwide pursuit of quantum computing. They engineered a method to control the spin of a single electron within a magnetic field without disturbing other nearby electrons.

supervision of Prof. Miguel A. Martin-Delgado at the Departmento de Fisica Teorica I, Facultad de Ciencias Fisicas, Universidad Complutense (Madrid, Spain). It covers a period of 4 years: 2-year fellowship plus 2-year contract. The Fellowship-Contract is funded by the Research Grant FIS2009-10061 of

The Vienna doctoral program on Complex Quantum Systems aims at providing young researchers with a comprehensive view of experimental and theoretical quantum physics. It puts a strong emphasis on quantum optics and quantum information in systems as various as photons, neutrons, mesons, atoms, molecules and solids.
