The theoretical division of Quantum Algorithms, directed by Prof. Leandro Aolita, at the Quantum Research Centre (QRC) of the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, together with the Quantum Technology Research Group, directed by Junior Professor Martin Kliesch, at the Theoretical Physics Department of the Heinrich-Heine University of Düsseldorf (HHU), Germany, is seeking a highly talented and motivated candidate for a PhD position in quantum algorithms and quantum computation theory.
TII is a new, top-funding state initiative that aims at becoming a major international hub for science & technology. The QRC has recently launched world-class theoretical and experimental research groups on different quantum technologies. The HHU is a German university with high research output.
The PhD will be supervised jointly by Profs. Aolita and Kliesch. The PhD degree will be awarded by the HHU, but the permanent work place will be Abu Dhabi, with regular visits to Düsseldorf. The salary is significantly above the corresponding levels in the USA or Europe. Besides, important personal and family allowances are offered, and traveling funds are abundant. The position involves no teaching commitments. Candidates must have a master’s (or equivalent) degree in physics, computer science, or mathematics. We value creativity, mathematical rigor, and openness to interdisciplinary collaborations.
The PhD topic is flexible. Possible research activities include:
- circuit-based quantum computers as well as analogue quantum simulators
- hybrid quantum-classical algorithms,
- quantum machine learning,
- quantum computational complexity,
- quantum error correction and mitigation,
- benchmarking and characterization of experimental quantum hardware,
- quantum software deployment.
Applications must be sent jointly to leandro.aolita@tii.ae and qt@hhu.de. They should consist of a curriculum vitae (CV), a letter of motivation (max. 1 page), and a short statement of research interests (max. 2 pages). The CV should include a full transcript of all grades (BSc + MSc). At least two recommendation letters should be arranged to be sent directly to the same E-mail addresses.
