The first implementations of quantum error correction are already emerging, but full-scale fault-tolerant quantum computation remains ahead. In addition to hardware advances, significant progress can be achieved through the codesign of quantum error-correcting codes, quantum algorithms (particularly for quantum simulation of condensed-matter systems), and quantum hardware. This will form the context of the PhD position.
The research will be conducted within the Theoretical Quantum Technology Group led by Markus Müller, based at the Institute for Quantum Information at RWTH Aachen University and the Peter Grünberg Institute 2 at Forschungszentrum Jülich. The position is part of the Munich Quantum Valley Hardware-Adapted Theory (HAT) consortium.
