MSU’s Center for Quantum Technology has a long established track record in experimentally demonstrating optical quantum information processing.  The research is accelerating as the center assumes the leading role in a National Technology Initiative (NTI) Focused on Quantum Technologies.

We are building a collaborative team working at the intersection of MSU’s quantum hardware focused Center for Quantum Technology and Skoltech’s quantum software focused, Deep Quantum Labs which are both members of the Consortium formed under the NTI Quantum Technologies Initiative. This is part of educational cooperation between the members of the NTI consortium.

Students with interest in experimental quantum optics, theoretical quantum optics and quantum information and/or the intersection of these topics should apply.

Planned projects include (i) theory and demonstration of new methods for state and process tomography (ii) experimental demonstrations of quantum simulation algorithms (iii) experimental demonstrations of quantum machine learning algorithms.

The successful candidates will work between MSU’s Quantum Technology Center and Skoltech’s Deep Quantum Lab.  Their PhD will be awarded from Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) - a unique English-speaking international graduate only research university, located just outside of Moscow. Established in collaboration with M.I.T., Skoltech integrates the best Russian scientific traditions with twenty-first century innovation.

Students who have completed or are nearing completion of a masters degree with relevant backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

The PhD course takes a minimum of three years but normally it takes four years. Those accepted into this program will receive (i) a tuition waiver (covering the full price of tuition) as well as (ii) a basic starting stipend of 85k RUB (tax free) which goes to 105k RUB (tax free) after proven performance for twelve months and (iii) health insurance.

Application procedure. The application process will consist of two stages. Students should send their full CV and a statement (not more than 300 words) outlining their interest to Dr. Stanislav Straupe <straups@qotlabs.org> – as part of initial screening, selected candidates will be contacted to submit a full application with a potential initial screening interview via Skype.
