PhD position in CQT Singapore in “Quantum computation and quantum simulation with quantum optical systems”
The positions are within the Quantum Optics and Quantum Simulators Group lead by Dr. Dimitris G. Angelakis in the Centre of Quantum Technologies (http://quantumlah.org/research/group/index.php?PI=20).
The group's research interests span most aspects of theoretical quantum optics and its applications in implementations of quantum computation and quantum simulations. The advertised PhD projects will study how quantum optical systems could be used to understand the behavior of complex condensed matter systems like insulators and superconductors and in implementing quantum computation. The systems studied will include superconducting circuits, atomic gases interacting with light fields, and integrated nano-photonic chips.
The candidate should have an excellent undergraduate record, especially in quantum mechanics related courses, and ideally have some knowledge of quantum optics and quantum information or condensed matter. Exposure in AMO physics and quantum information at the level of an MSc course will be a plus, as also experience in programming in Fortran/C/C++, MatLab, or Mathematica. The ability to work in a collaborative environment is encouraged.
The current group consists of one postdoc and two PhD students. We are in close contact with other theory and experimental groups in CQT and have ongoing collaborations with groups in Europe and the US. These PhD positions will be CQT based with opportunities to visit the corresponding collaborators' groups. The positions are fully funded and include a travel grant and funds to buy a computer and books.
The positions are available as soon as possible and we accept applications until a suitable candidate is found. Applications should be sent by email to dimitris.angelakis-at-gmail.com. They should contain a detailed CV, letter of motivation (1 page), your complete undergraduate transcript and one report from an undergraduate project that you have done. The emails of two faculty who have supervised you in an undergraduate project should also be provided.
