Within the frame of a new Joint European Research Project we have a job opening for one PhD Student or Post Doctoral Researcher on scalable high-precision ion traps for optical clock metrology. The goal of this project is to assemble and characterize a high-end ion trap suitable for clock-spectroscopy of ionic crystals with a fractional frequency inaccuracy as low as 10^-18.
This project involves interdisciplinary tasks including high-precision clock spectroscopy and trap engineering. The experiment is to be carried out in our new set-up, in which we trap ytterbium and indium ions in laser-cooled Coulomb crystals and investigate ion dynamics of mixed species crystals.
