PhD

The PhD project will be in the broad field of non-equilibrium quantum and classical many-body system, including cold atomic gases, quantum optical systems, glassy and driven systems, neural networks and machine learning, and systems at the interface of classical and quantum.

Areas of interest will be the study of the emergence of correlated dynamical states, phase transitions and collective phenomena, and the competition between classical and quantum effects, together with issues of thermalisation and non-ergodicity.

Applications are invited for a Ph.D. position at the Centre for Quantum Computer Science, University of Latvia, lead by prof. Andris Ambainis. The Centre is among the strongest European research groups in quantum algorithms and currently consists of 4 faculty members and 13 postdocs and graduate students.

Project Description

The focus of the PhD project will be the development of quantum algorithms with the aim of near-term implementation on NISQ machines. The project will primarily involve the theoretical analysis of quantum algorithms and their implementations, but it could also involve the study of structural features of quantum information theory relevant to the NISQ regime (such as quantum entanglement and other resources).
