Cooperative Behaviour at the Quantum Light-Matter Interface
We are seeking a Post-Doctoral researcher to work at the interface of cold atoms and quantum optics. This is a prestigious two-year fellowship to study collective strong coupling of light and matter in an optical ring resonator.
The experiment aims to:
• Demonstrate collective strong coupling of potassium atoms in a high-finesse cavity
• Examine the cooperative mechanics of cold atoms in dynamical optical lattices
• Investigate stochastic web resonances for sensitive inertial detection
The successful candidate will have a PhD and a strong track record in experimental atomic, molecular, and optical physics. Applications must be made jointly by the candidate and the host institution. The application deadline is 16 April, 2012, so it is best to express an interest immediately. Potential candidates should contact:

The Newton International Fellowship is awarded by the British Academy and Royal Society to fund world-class Post-Doctoral research at UK institutions. This experiment is part of the Cold Atoms group at the University of Birmingham and the Midlands Ultracold Atom Research Centre (MUARC). MUARC developed from a £9M investment, and is designed to be a world-class centre of excellence at the interface between cold atoms, condensed matter, and optical physics. Birmingham is the UK's second largest city, with a vibrant culture and diverse population, and is just over an hour by train from London.
