ICFO – The Institute of Photonic Sciences (http://www.icfo.eu), in collaboration with the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC), is offering a predoctoral fellowship to well-qualified graduate students who wish to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment, as well as to obtain a doctoral degree in any of the photonics-related research fields.
Applications from highly motivated researchers are welcome to apply for a postdoctoral position in the group of Gerhard Kirchmair which is located at the Institut for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information and at the Experimental Physics departement of the University of Innsbruck. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in physics or a related field and ideally have a strong background in experimental quantum physics and/or nanofabrication.
One of the remaining puzzles in modern physics is the transition from quantum to classical physics. While many models, like decoherence, have been proposed, experimental tests remain very challenging. One of the most promising avenues for observing quantum effects at a macroscopic scale has been through optomechanics in which the radiation pressure of light is used to probe and control the dynamics of mechanical oscillators.

Quantum technology is a cutting-edge field aimed at harnessing the unique nature of quantum mechanics to perform tasks that are impossible with conventional technologies. The Optics Division at the University of Strathclyde will be a focal point of the EPSRC Quantum Technology Hubs, and has received significant funding from the recent call to expand our multi-disciplinary research in both experimental and theoretical fields. These full-time posts are available from 1st October, initially for two years with the possibility of extension to up to five years.

Applications are invited for the post of Research Scientist in the Quantum Information Group at Toshiba Research Europe Ltd. Research will be conducted on novel components and systems for quantum cryptography and is mainly experimental in character.
Candidates should hold a PhD in Physics, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline and demonstrated outstanding achievement in experimental quantum cryptography or quantum optics. Experience of optoelectronic components, fibre optic systems, digital electronics and control software would be an advantage.
